Wine Regions

Discover the Heart of Beaujolais – a Land of History, Wine, Castles, and Authentic French Living

My recent visit to the Beaujolais region was nothing short of enchanting. Nestled between Burgundy and Lyon, Beaujolais is a land where history and wine blend beautifully, offering travelers an unforgettable mix of heritage, landscapes, and flavors.

Even though I am originally from Lyon — only about an hour from Beaujolais — I had never really taken the time to explore the region. Sometimes when things are close, you forget to look… What a shame!I finally discovered a region full of welcoming people, proud of their heritage, traditions, and wine culture. Beaujolais completely captured my heart.

Stepping Into History – Castles and Churches in Beaujolais

Traveling through Beaujolais felt like stepping back in time. The region is filled with historic treasures — centuries-old castles, noble residences, and stunning Romanesque and Gothic churches — each whispering stories of the past. Next page are some highlights from my journey:

  • Château de Bagnols : A magnificent 13th-century castle, perfectly preserved and surrounded by rolling vineyards. I had the honor to attend a special event here, with local artisans and a magical son et lumière (sound and light) show. If you dream of stepping into history, Château de Bagnols is the place to stay in Beaujolais.

A Toast to the Best Wineries in Beaujolais

Of course, no visit to Beaujolais would be complete without tasting the local wines. I had the pleasure of visiting several wonderful estates:

  • Château des Ravatys : A charming domain at the foot of Mont Brouilly, known for its classic Beaujolais crus. They offer picnics in the vineyards, private tours, masterclasses, and even dinners in their stunning wine cellars.
